"Agreement that feels like victory is needed"

Thaci said stated that this agreement "should give all parties a sense of victory - not only Kosovo, but also Serbia and the international community."

In an interview for the Pristina-based daily Epoke e Re, he reiterated that "the key point of the agreement is the recognition of Kosovo's independence by Belgrade" and also "the UN chair" for Pristina.

He added that this documents should also define all other open issues "between the two countries."

"The agreement should be such that all parties feel victorious in this process, not only in Kosovo, but also in Serbia, as well as in the international community. I asked that the Presevo valley (an area in the southern part of central Serbia) be included in this process and that Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac join Kosovo," Thaci said.

He, however, did not reply when asked directly whether northern Kosovo will get "some kind of autonomy or would go to Serbia."

"The goal of the agreement is to be final. It should bring lasting peace and stability both to Kosovo and the region. Any other formula that violates the statehood and stability of the state of Kosovo, such as the Community of Serb Municipalities with executive powers, is not a solution in the interests of Kosovo or peace in the region," said Thaci.

According to him, the most challenging point of the agreement is to make "both sides feel victorious."

Thaci also said that this agreement currently "has no outlines," and reiterated that US President Donald Trump's recent letter, "saying that an agreement should be signed by the spring" was encouraging.
