Romanian's Murder in Central London Shocks UK

The murder in London of a young Romanian whose girlfriend said he had come to England "looking for a better life" has jolted Britain out of its festive post-Christmas mood of complacency and made front-page headlines.

Whole East European migrants to the UK have died before in brawls or attacks in the crowded, poor neighbourhoods where many of them have to live, the latest homicide has shocked the country as it occurred in perhaps the most exclusive street in the whole country.

Tudor Simionov died working as a security guard in London's ultra-wealthy Park Lane, off Hyde Park - stabbed by violent drunken gatecrashers trying to enter a New Year's Eve ticket-only party hosted in a high-end townhouse, where guests reputedly paid up to 2,000 pounds a head to enter.

"He was my future husband and we came to London from Romania for a better life," his grieving girlfriend Madalina Anghel told the media.

The couple had only been in the country for a few weeks. A selfie shows them flying to London on October 20 under the hashtag "goodbyeRomania".

The UK Daily Mail said the church-going fitness fanatic only took on the New Year's Eve job after being offered a whopping 400 pounds - double the normal rate as a central London nightclub "bouncer".

Another Romanian migrant, Beniamin Pieknyi, died weeks after arriving in the UK in March after being set on by a gang in east London for no known reason. The gang leader, Vladyslav Yakymchuk, was given a life sentence in October.

Another Romanian immigrant, Mihal Cernat, was, ironically, killed by fellow Romanians after attending a celebration of Romania's national day in December 2017 in the eastern port of Grimbsy that turned violent.
