#Romania2019.eu/ForMin Melescanu presents Romanian EU Council Presidency priorities at European Policy Center info session

Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu presented the priorities of the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the European Union in the field of foreign relations during the information session organized by the European Policy Center think tank in Brussels on Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry, Melescanu delivered a speech on the priorities of the general working programmme of the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council, under the motto "Cohesion, a common European value". He stated that Romania's intention is to focus in the first half of this year on four dimensions of cohesion, namely a Europe evolving under the sign of convergence, greater safety and security, a more powerful global player role, and, not least, the common European values.

Referring to the external dimension, Teodor Melescanu expressed Romania's commitment to supporting the efforts of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to ensure an effective and coherent external action of the European Union.

In this regard, the Foreign Minister has pointed out that Romania's priorities will be aimed at strengthening the EU profile in the multilateral system, as well as continuing the implementation of the Global Strategy. At the same time, Romania will pay special attention to the Western Balkans region and boosting the enlargement policy, the EU action in the neighborhood and, in particular, the Eastern Partnership.

The talks that followed the lecture highlighted the audience's special interest in Romania's contribution to the debates on the future of the European Union, the MAE release also said.
