NATO Invests € 50 Million in Airbase 350 km from Sofia

NATO officially began work in Kuchova, Albania for the construction of the first airbase in the Western Balkans, announced the  Ministry of Defense, cited by SeeNews.

Defense Minister Olta Xhaka met in Tirana with commander General Todd Walters. The work will last for five years. "The Kuchova air base has unique features and the existing track is in a convenient geographical position," said Walters. NATO will invest over € 50 million in the first phase of modernization, Prime Minister Edi Rama said in August. "Kochova will also serve as the national base for the Albanian Air Force," he said. Kochova will serve as a base for NATO.
