Food delivery workers stage protest motorcade in Thessaloniki
Members of the union representing food delivery workers in Thessaloniki participated in a motorcade in the northern port city on Monday to protest the latest in a string of incidents involving physical and verbal abuse of staff by employers.
In comments to the Athens-Macedonia news agency on Monday, a senior member of the union, Vassilis Kefalas, said workers were demanding an end to the "medieval" working conditions and said they will no longer tolerate abuse and attacks.
The alleged attack last week was the latest in a series of instances of abuse and involved both physical and verbal abuse, the union said.
The delivery worker in question claims to have been working for the past three months without insurance, using his own motorcycle for deliveries, paying for his own gas and not receiving a Christmas bonus.
