Study finds over 90 pct of child molestation victims knew abusers

In more than 90 percent of child molestation cases in Thessaloniki from 2005 to 2015, the culprit was acquainted with the victim, according to the results of a study by Aristotle University's health sciences department.

More specifically, 93 percent of the 229 reported cases involved acquaintances.

The age range of the victims was from three months to 17 years.

Most of the victims were girls (72.1 percent) while boys were abused in 27.9 percent of cases.

The average age at which the victims were abused was 12 for girls and 9 for boys.
