Officially Registered Infected with Measles in Bulgaria are 45

Currently, the total number of officially registered measles cases in Bulgaria is 45. This was announced by the director of the National Center for Contagious and Parasitic Diseases and Epidemiologist Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev.

"As of February 25, there are three new confirmed cases of people infected with measles - two of pre-vaccination infants from Sofia, and one child from Samokov," said Professor Kantardzhiev, pointing out that they were all hospitalized in Sofia hospitals.

"Currently officially registered are 45 cases of measles infected. 27 of them are from the Blagoevgrad district, 7 are from the city of Sofia and three from the Sofia region, "said the director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

In his words, there is no epidemic at the moment because these are separate epidemic cases. "An epidemic can be declared when an area is affected and when it spreads in different areas. If all underage and non-immunized children up to 8 years of age are vaccinated, we will not allow an epidemic in our country, "the epidemiologist said.

"More than 90% of people are vaccinated against measles in 2018 according to the Center for Analyzes and Public Health," he said.
