#Romania2019.eu / Minister-delegate Ciamba: Romania prioritising fight against anti-Semitism while holding EU Council Presidency

The fight against anti-Semitism is one of the top priorities of Romania under its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Romania's Minister-delegate of European Affairs George Ciamba said at a meeting on Monday with Israel's Ambassador in Bucharest David Saranga. According to a press statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the dialogue with the Israeli ambassador offered a short overview of the excellent stage in the Romanian-Israeli bilateral relations, which are based on a natural partnership, consolidated over 70 years of uninterrupted diplomatic ties. The two officials also analysed the prospects for future co-operation, highlighting the interest of both countries in continuing political, diplomatic, economic and sectoral co-operation through reciprocal visits to Romania and the State of Israel. According to MAE, Ciamba highlighted Romania's significant efforts in recent years to take responsibility for its past, to condemn Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism, mentioning that under the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the European Union, combating anti-Semitism is one of Romania's top priorities. Ciamba mentioned a conference dedicated to combating this phenomenon, entitled "The Fight against anti-Semitism: A common approach to better protect Jewish communities in Europe - from policy to action," which took place in Brussels on February 7. At the same time, the meeting allowed for an exchange of views on regional and international developments of common interest. Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ciamba outlined Romania's priorities under the rotating presidency of the EU Council, reiterating the special attention given to the developments in EU's Southern Neighbourhood.
