#Romania2019.eu/Ciamba: Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, joint responsibility, all parties' involvement, needed

The implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a shared responsibility, calling for the active involvement of the Member States, the private sector and the civil society, George Ciamba, Minister-delegate for European Affairs told the "Annual Industry Days" Conference, informs the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) in a press release. Present at the "Navigating through SDGs. Aligning sustainability goals with the European industries" lecture within the "Annual Industry Days" conference in Bucharest, under the auspices of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and of the European Industry Week, Ciamba pointed out "the need to ensure a deep involvement of the private sector to give substance to the relationship between industry and sustainable development." "In this regard, the Minister-delegate has shown that the efforts made so far at European level have begun to produce tangible results, recognizing that the EU industry has become one of the most efficient at a global level and has already contributed to the net reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases, while increasing productivity. He also stressed that these efforts have led to the modernization of the European economy, to sustainable economic growth, and brought social and environmental benefits to European citizens. Further steps are however needed to ensure citizens are better informed of the actions and demarches carried out at European level for their benefit," the MAE release shows. Ciamba underscored the importance the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union grants to sustainable development and to generating economic convergence and social cohesion. In this context, he highlighted the importance of actions at European level to help ensure sustainable economic development, in the context of rational use of resources and the protection of the environment. "At the end of his speech, the Minister-delegate for European Affairs pointed out that, starting from the European Commission's Reflection Paper 'Towards a sustainable Europe by 2030', which underlines the need for enhanced action in view of a sustainable development both at European and global level, and in partnership with the United Nations, the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will aim to facilitate debates on the prospects for the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development at the level of the European Union," the same source specified.
