PM Dancila: US Ambassador to Brussels commended Romania on how it exercised duties during rotating Presidency

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said US Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland commended, during a meeting that she had with him in Brussels, the manner in which Romania has exercised its mandate so far at the rotating Presidency of the EU Council, adding that it has succeeded in concluding 62 files pending on the European agenda. "I was talking about the meetings with the two European officials [Frans Timmermans and Michel Barnier]. I was very glad to see their appreciation for the manner in which Romania is handling the rotating Presidency. The manner in which the ministers got involved, each minister, how they reached consensus, how they handled very heavy files, I refer to the gas directive, the copyright, the presence of the Prime Minister - for it was the most substantial presence of a prime minister to Brussels (...) during a rotating presidency - the way we have made every effort to move things in the right direction are appreciated. Moreover, we also had a meeting with the US Ambassador to the EU and he also very much appreciated the way in which Romania exercised its duties during the rotating Presidency. For instance, the Austrian Presidency concluded 53 files. We concluded 62 files in two months. And we still have four months to go and think about the fact that we have hard-to-manage challenges. We have the Brexit, which we talked about, we have the multi-annual financial framework," Viorica Dancila told the Romania TV private television broadcaster on Thursday. The Prime Minister also added, in connection with the multi-annual financial framework, that he had sent a letter to President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, signed by her and European Commissioner for Budget Gunther Oettinger, "precisely in order to make important steps without advancing amounts, on certain areas which will help set the multiannual financial framework in October this year."
