EPP local, regional leaders to convene in Bucharest on Saturday

A summit meeting of local and regional leaders of the European People's Party (EPP), including over 150 mayors and regional leaders from Europe, as well as about 3,000 Romanian local officeholders will be held in Bucharest on Saturday, according to the National Liberal Party (PNL). Attending the summit on an invitation of PNL national chairman Ludovic Orban will be Romania's President Klaus Iohannis, EPP candidate for the European Commission presidency Manfred Weber, EPP Secretary General Antonio Lopez-Isturiz White, EPP Group leader in the European Committee of the Regions Michael Schneider and the EPP 2019 election campaign manager Dara Murphy. At the meeting, Manfred Weber will unveil the vision for the future of the European Union and the main guidelines in the EPP programme for the European Commission presidency. At the same time, an EPP regional and local manifesto for the elections to the European Parliament of May 26 will be unveiled. The EPP summit comprises two panels of debate on improving the quality of life in local communities: Olgierd Geblewicz (president of Poland's West Pomerania region), Daniela Cimpean (Chair of the Sibiu County Council), Emil Boc (mayor of the City of Cluj-Napoca), Jelena Drenjanin (representative of the Stockholm region), Yordanka Fandakova (mayor of Sofia), Markku Markkula (president of the Helsinki region), Gheorghe Flutur (Chairman of the Suceava County Council / chairman of the PNL League of Local Officeholders), Ana Lidia Pereira (chair of the EPP youth organization). The EPP summit will end with a joint news conference to be held by Orban and Weber. Orban announced on Monday the organisation of this EPP summit. The meeting's venue is the Romexpo exhibition centre in Bucharest City.
