Tsipras, Zaev tout Prespes benefits ahead of elections

With looming elections on their minds, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his North Macedonian counterpart Zoran Zaev sought on Tuesday, during the former's official visit to Skopje, to highlight the benefits that will accrue from the Prespes agreement ratified by the two countries earlier this year.

This was all too apparent in the language they used to laud the agreement. Zaev said that Greece and North Macedonia are "writing history," while Tsipras, the first Greek premier to pay an official visit to Skopje, hailed "a historic step forward for the Balkans and Europe."

"You are looking at two neighbors, friendly people who have shown Europe and the entire world that with brave decisions and good wishes for togetherness, something that was impossible yesterday has become reality today," said Zaev.
