Albania Army Officer Accidentally Killed in Latvia

"The incident occurred during a training mission," Bardhyl Kollcaku, a brigade general in the army told the media.

Zarife Hasanaj, 32, was part of a team participating in the Enhanced Forward Presence mission, a major NATO operation in Eastern Europe designed to encounter security threats from Russia.

The two injured officers are under medical care at the base. Their conditions remains unknown.

Albania has been a NATO member since 2008 and its army has participated in several peacekeeping missions, including Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2012, Feti Vogli, a special forces officer, was killed in Afghanistan.
