Police opens probe into mistreatment of protester in Lefkada
Greek Police (ELAS) said on Wednesday it launched a preliminary investigation into the reported mistreatment of a man who participated in a protest against oil drilling in the Ionian Sea, on the island of Lefkada, on May 12.
In a video published by several media, officers are seen dragging the protester away from a square where he had gathered with other citizens.
The incident took place during a visit by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the island to inaugurate a local hospital.
"It is an unwavering position of the police headquarters that the conduct of its officers should be fully in line with the rule of law and the police's operational framework and must fully respect human dignity," ELAS said in a press release.
