Female Journalists Attacked Online: Share Your Stories

Have you been a victim of online violence in your work as a journalist? Have you received harassment, threats or attacks on social media?

We want to hear your stories.

For female journalists around the world, online violence isn't only common, but also takes on a very dark nature that tends to specifically focus on gender. The hidden figures behind these attacks frequently use sexism, degradation and comments on personal appearance and relationships to try to discredit, shame and ultimately silence women journalists.

To put a spotlight on the prevalence and nature of this violence, we want to collect as many personal stories as possible to show exactly how the situation looks for female journalists in the Balkans, highlighting this prevailing issue and making the voices of female journalists in the region heard.

If you're willing to share your personal experience with online violence in your work as a journalist in the Balkans, we want to hear from you.

We won't publish any of the information you share with us without your consent.

The key things we want to know are:

  • When was the first time you experienced such violence?
  • Do you think there a specific reason the attacks started at that time? If yes, what was the reason?
  • Was anything ever done about the online violence you experienced? (Did you report it to the police, what happened? Was anyone charged/prosecuted?)
  • Examples of threats you've received.

To start the conversation and to share your story, contact us via email on [email protected].

Let's start saying "Enough!" to online violence.
