MHP slams establishment of new political parties

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Dec. 17 slammed the search for establishing new political parties in Turkey, dubbing the moves as a "conspiration."

In a written statement, Bahçeli said "the complicated and dirty actions" of those who want to "sabotage" the politics have accelerated and have become widespread recently.

"Seeking for new political parties does not aim to meet a political and social need but it is a cheap order of inventors of conspiracy and fiction [plotting] on Turkey," he said.

The MHP leader's remarks came after former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on Dec. 13 announced the launch of his new political party, named "Future Party."

Davutoğlu resigned from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Sept. 13 after the ruling party had launched disciplinary action against him and three other party dissidents.

Bahçeli also voiced support for sending troops to Libya, saying "if needed" such a move is "a matter of survival."

Referring to developments in Libya and Syria, he warned against standing idle in the face of the crises in Libya and Syria, saying it would "create geopolitical risks" and "pose a threat to Anatolian geography."

After their joint efforts to win the referendum to shift to a presidential system in 2017, the AKP and MHP formed the People's Alliance ahead of the June 24, 2018 elections. The alliance was extended for the March 31 local elections.
