Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes western Turkey

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey's western Manisa province on Jan. 28, according to The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute has announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 5.1.

The quake, which occurred at 2.27 p.m. local time, was centered off Kırkağaç district at a depth of 11.8 kilometers.

Neighboring cities also reportedly felt the quake, which was described as non-destructive, as it was below magnitude 6.

The quake was also felt in the western cities of İzmir, Aydın, Denizli and Balıkesir.
No damage has been reported yet, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said.
