Number of vacancies falls to 41,800 in Q1

The number of vacancies in the first quarter fell to 41,800, and 29% of them are in the public sector, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) released on Wednesday. Compared to the fourth quarter of last year, the number of job vacancies decreased by 5,300 while compared to the same quarter of 2019 the decline is 16,400. The vacancy rate was 0.84%, down 0.11 percentage points from the previous quarter. According to the INS, in the first quarter of 2020, the highest rates of vacancies were registered in the public administration (1.99%), respectively in other service activities (1.97%). About 22% of the total number of vacancies (9,200) were concentrated in the processing industry, and the rate took the value of 0.81%. The public sector accounted for almost 29% of the total number of vacancies. Thus, 5,500 vacancies were found in both public administration and health and social assistance, and 1,000 vacancies in education. On the other hand, the vacancy rate registered the lowest value in hotels and restaurants (0.16%), and the total number of vacancies in real estate transactions (100 vacancies). By comparison with the previous quarter, in the vast majority of economic activities there were decreases of the two indicators.
