UPDATED Orban: PNL National Political Bureau decides to propose Florin Citu for Prime Minister

The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Ludovic Orban, announced that the Liberals' National Political Bureau decided, with one abstention, that Florin Citu be nominated for the position of Prime Minister. "With one abstention, the National Political Bureau of the PNL decided that our proposal for the position of Prime Minister should be Florin Citu," Orban said at the PNL headquarters. Orban revealed that both President Klaus Iohannis and himself wrote down, at the initiative of the head of state, independently, the proposal for the position of prime minister. "We wrote the same name," Orban said. He stated that Citu's nomination was not accidental. "A trying period will follow in which we need good knowledge of the administration, of the public finance situation, we need a prime minister who has credibility in front of the business environment, the international financial institutions, let's not forget that Minister Citu conducted extremely important negotiations with the European partners, he carried out important negotiations with international institutions, he managed together with the others - the National Bank, the Government to maintain the country rating in an extremely difficult situation for Romania. Mr. Minister knows very well the problems we faced while in office and for the most part he has prepared solutions, many of which are still underway," Orban explained. The PNL leader considers that Florin Citu's proposal for the position of Prime Minister is a very good one. "In the analysis of the proposal we made, we obviously thought about many aspects related to the actual management capacity of public affairs in the difficult period that will follow, even the possibility of the candidate for Prime Minister to be accepted by our partners. I believe that it is a very good proposal, a proposal that I hope we will succeed in negotiating to form a parliamentary majority [around], to finalize the governing program and the Government form so that, in the shortest possible time, we will succeed in investing the Government". Orban added. AGERPRES (RO - author: Florentina Peia, editor: Andreea Rotaru; EN - author: Simona Iacob, editor: Razvan-Adrian Pandea)
