Pahor attends online forum on W Balkans’ EU future

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor reiterated his stance that EU prospects for the Western Balkans are the main geopolitical issue bearing on European stability, as he addressed the To Be Secure (2BS) forum on Friday. His wish is for the entire region to join the EU.

Although the EU has a number of challenges, such as the health crisis, the emerging economic crisis, and Brexit, to deal with, it would be a grave mistake to underestimate the role of EU enlargement, he said.

Pahor regretted that even if North Macedonia had met all the criteria to start accession talks, these were being postponed, Pahor’s office said in a press release.

As one of the main speakers at the online forum, Pahor took part in a debate on EU enlargement and the Western Balkans’ future in the coming decade together with Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski.

The forum addressed a number of challenges, including those related to security, which generate reservations in the Euro-Atlantic community about relaunching common efforts to strengthen a successful future for SE Europe and beyond.
