Three interested in job of RTV Slovenija boss

Ljubljana – Three candidates have applied for the job of RTV Slovenija director general as the public broadcaster’s incumbent Igor Kadunc’s four-year term expires in late April. The programme council is expected to discuss them on 25 January. To be appointed, the candidate will have to receive at least 15 of the 29 councillor votes.

The public broadcaster told the STA on Monday that the vetting commission agreed all three applicants meet the job criteria, but did not reveal their names.

The newspaper Delo meanwhile reported that Kadunc is seeking another term and that the other two candidates are TV Slovenija director Natalija Gorščak and RTV Slovenija’s supervisory board chair Andrej Grah Whatmough.

When attempts to replace Kadunc were made in the past, Grah Whatmough was mentioned as a candidate for acting director general.

Delo also said that Gorščak seemed to be the most successful in seeking support among programme council members.

Should neither of the candidates get the required majority, RTV Slovenija will repeat the call for applications.

Among the job requirements are Slovenian citizenship, a university degree, at least 10 years of work experience, and managerial experience in large organisations.

A candidate must be well familiar with RTV Slovenija, but must not be an MP or an official of a political party.

He or she must also not have an interest or permanent contractual ties with legal entities which do business with RTV Slovenija.
