Spokesman Kacin named state secretary for coordination of vaccination logistics

Ljubljana – Jelko Kacin, the government’s Covid-19 spokesman, has been named state secretary at the prime minister’s office tasked with the coordination of the logistics of mass vaccination.

Effective on 18 January, he will coordinate the logistics of the vaccination, which is organised by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), and the exchange of information and data concerning vaccination between government and EU institutions, the Government Communications Office said on Thursday.

Kacin, 65, became the Covid-19 spokesman in the earliest stages of the epidemic in mid-March and has been the public face of the government’s daily media briefings.

He has previously served as information and defence minister, member of parliament, member of the European Parliament and ambassador to NATO.

Delo newspaper reports that he will no longer serve as spokesman and would be succeeded for the time being by his current deputy, Maja Bratuša.
