Pahor welcomes US rejoining Paris climate deal and WHO

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s President Borut Pahor has welcomed the US’s rejoining the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organisation (WHO) under President Joe Biden. “Multilateralism has regained encouragement and value. This is important for Slovenia, the EU and the whole word,” Pahor said in a post on his Twitter account.

Shortly after being sworn in on Wednesday, Biden signed 17 executive orders, memorandums and proclamations to undo some of Donald Trump’s policies pertaining to the environment, climate, immigration and visas, apart from issuing an executive order to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden also restored the US’s membership of the WHO after the Trump administration withdraw the nation from the organisation last year as the former president was looking for culprits for the pandemic.

Under one of Biden’s executive orders the US is also rejoining the 2015 Paris climate agreement, having officially withdrawn from the deal in November 2020.
