Social Analysts: Every Second Marriage in Bulgaria Ends in Divorce

Six divorce cases have been heard in the past two days in the Regional Court of Blagoevgrad. The couples, who decided to end their relationship, officially split up and set a new anti-record. All six divorces were settled by mutual agreement, and as a motive the couples pointed to irreparable differences between them.

The longest marriage broke up after 34 years of cohabitation, and the most short lived one was concluded in 2016. In three of the cases, children born during the marriage had already come of age and the court did not have to decide which of the parents to take care of them, reports struma.com.

The parental rights for two children, born during only four years of marriage, were awarded to the father. In another divorce case, Judge Nikolova awarded the parental rights to the mother, and in the last divorce case the children were separated - one was given to the mother and the other to the father, and the two already ex-partners will exchange their children as agreed.

"Every second marriage in Bulgaria ends in divorce by the tenth year after wedding," the statisticians report. Sociologists are adamant that the critical age for marriages break up is 38-42 years. The reason is that 10-15 years ago people married when 20-23 years old.

And late marriage, which has recently been seen as a trend, gives a higher guarantee for a healthy family. The most commonly cited reason for the breakup is the banal "personal incompatibility".

Among other reasons are the accusations of alcoholism against the mate, drug and gambling addiction. Infidelity of the partner is only in the fifth place, and, curiously, in one of the last places is the claim that the partner proved to be a homosexual and this was found out in marriage.
