Ski jumps: Double victory for Slovenian female team in Austria

Linz – Slovenia celebrated a double victory at the Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup in Austria’s Hinzenbach on Friday. Nika Križnar bagged her first World Cup victory with 237.4 points, followed by Ema Klinec with 236.6 points. Third place went to Norwegian Eirin Maria Kvandal (226.6 points).

After the first round, Sara Takanashi from Japan had the best score but was disqualified after a suit inspection. Last year’s overall winner Norwegian Maren Lundby did not jump either after problems with the transport of her skis.

The 20-year-old Križnar managed the longest jump in the second round, 90.5 metres, to claim her first win in the World Cup after standing on the podium for four times, beating Klinec by mere 0.8 points.

“It’s a dream come true. I’ve been wanting to win a World Cup event for a long time,” Križnar said after the race, according to web portal RTV Slovenija.

Today’s performance puts Klinec and Križnar to the second and third places in overall ratings with 291 and 265 points, respectively. Austria’s Marita Kramer is in the lead with 410 points.

Another Slovenian, Urša Bogataj, finished eighth today, while Jerneja Brecl and Špela Rogelj were 16th and 18th, respectively.

Two more individual events are scheduled in Hinzenbach for Saturday and Sunday.
