Hisense Gorenje hiring additional workers as orders grow

Velenje – The Velenje-based maker of household appliances and TV sets Gorenje, a part of the Chinese group Hisense, is reporting increasing orders for the coming months and is hiring additional workers, mostly at the newly opened TV plant.

The Hisense Europe Electronics plant in Velenje, where production of TV sets of the Hisense brand for the European market was launched in January, already has 750 employees, and an additional 50 will be employed in April.

Hisense Gorenje told the STA on Monday that orders were increasing, and that three-shift work was being introduced in March on two production lines, with the remaining fur lines operating in two shifts.

The company is also hiring additional workers for the household appliance plant, and it will be looking in the coming months for workers in production, including machine operators.

Orders for the coming weeks are high, a trend present in the entire industry of household appliances brought by the Covid-19 lockdown, as people do not spend money on travel, restaurants and free time.

Hisense Gorenje has responded to the decision of the US multinational Adient to close down by the end of the year its affiliate in Slovenj Gradec, a municipality neighbouring Velenje, by offering its workers employment in Gorenje.

This was offered already last year when 119 workers were laid off in the producer of components for car seats and interiors, and the offer is still on the table as 412 people are to lose their jobs by the end of 2021 and further 18 in May next year when the operation will have closed down.

“Gorenje will expectedly also be able to provide employment to certain types of employees from administrative services who, in comparison to production workers, would find it harder to get a new job, especially in Koroška,” the company said.
