"Democratic Bulgaria" Will Not Support Increase of President's Powers

"Democratic Bulgaria" certainly will not support increase of powers of the president, especially in the run-up to elections.

"We do not support seizing the powers of parliament in this regard. If it is a question of who will sign the decree, this is not a problem, but we will defend the central role of National Assembly".

This was stated to BNR by Hristo Ivanov, chairman of the parliamentary group of "Democratic Bulgaria", in connection with a proposal submitted by "There is such a people" (ITN) for a change in the Electoral Code, according to which the president should appoint members of the Central Electoral Commission.

According to the co-chairman of "Democratic Bulgaria" the attempt of this parliament to broadcast "change management" should be focused around ITN:

"We cannot talk about unconditional support. Our condition is really that it will be a government of change, which has the capacity and staff to implement this change ... We will approach constructively and in good faith. We hope we do not have to nominate ministers in this government. But let's not hurry, let's see if we are asked for such support at all. "

According to him, it may be difficult to have a viable government in this parliament:

"We will take a responsible approach to any attempt by ITN to apply a mandate, but it is important for us that this is not at any cost, but that it is a suitable governance to implement change."
