Number of new coronavirus cases at almost 600 on Wednesday

Ljubljana – A total of 597 new coronavirus infections were confirmed in 4,636 PCR tests in Slovenia on Wednesday, which means 12.9% of the tests came back positive. Currently, 450 people are in hospitals, including 123 in intensive care, government data show. Four Covid-19 patients died and 45 have been discharged from hospital.

The rolling seven-day average of new infections dropped to 494, from 520 the day before.

Data from the National Institute for Public Health (NIJZ) show that over 500,000 people in Slovenia have so far received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and almost 260,000 have received both shots.

Currently, 12.3% of the population has been fully inoculated, while the goal is 60%.

The vaccination rate is the highest among people aged 65 or more.

A total of 231,739 men have received the first dose of the vaccine, and 109,806 the second. The figures for women are 276,029 and 149,257, respectively.

Most people have received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine (315,413 the first dosage and 220,980 the second), followed by AstraZeneca (142.129 the first and 5,656 the second dosage) and Moderna (46,646 and 32,427). Janssen has been administered to 3,374 people.
