Flydubai plans to launch flights to Ljubljana in September

Ljubljana/Dubai – Low-cost airline Flydubai intends to start operating flights between its base in Dubai and Ljubljana in September. According to the Ljubljana airport flight schedule, Flydubai will launch flights to Slovenia’s capital on 24 September, flying three times per week, aviation portal Exyuaviation.com reported.

Slovenia has been seeking to set up air links with the Gulf states for years. Infrastructure Minister Jernej Vrtovec recently said that Flydubai and Fraport Slovenija, the Ljubljana airport operator, had been discussing the launch of Dubai-Ljubljana flights.

Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek called for setting up flight services between the two countries in January.

Flydubai will start flying to Ljubljana just ahead of the start of Expo 2020 Dubai, which was pushed forward due to the pandemic and opens on 1 October this year.

In 2019, some 19,500 passengers flew between Ljubljana and the Middle East, according to the OAG global travel data provider. The bulk of them, about 3,700, flew to Dubai, mostly via Istanbul Airport.

Flydubai has strong ties with Emirates, another state-owned Dubai-based airline. Dubai is currently open to foreign visitors provided they produce a negative PCR test result.
