Slovenia preparing strong business programme for Dubai Expo

Ljubljana – Slovenia will focus on three segments at the Dubai Expo this year: know-how, economic opportunities, and unique sustainable experiences. Its showcase will go beyond the pavilion and a strong business programme is planned, Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek told the press on Tuesday.

“Despite last year’s uncertain situation, the world exposition will feature a robust and high-quality business and professional programme,” Počivalšek said about the Expo, where a record 194 countries will be presented.

The ministry, along with Spirit Slovenia and the Slovenian Enterprise Fund, has launched a voucher programme for Slovenian companies wishing to take part.

The initial scope was increased due to high demand and a third of the current quota has been filled. “We wish to fill the remainder in the shortest possible time,” said Spirit Slovenia director Tomaž Kostanjevec.

Expo programmed manager Anuša Gaši said Slovenia would leverage certain “lucky coincidences”, for example the coinciding of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence and the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates.

Slovenia will preside the EU in the second half of the year and since the EU will not have its own pavilion, it will have presentations in the pavilions of individual member states. “Slovenia is in a prominent position here,” she said.

The Slovenian day at the expo will be 8 February and the organisers hope to host Slovenian Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar, who competes for the UAE Team Emirates.

Jurček Žmauc, the director of the Slovenian pavilion, said the Expo was an opportunity that had to be seized on. “We have nothing to be afraid of,” he said.

In the tourism segment, the Slovenian Tourist Board plans to organise thematic months and present the country’s tourist destinations more in-depth through a variety of stories.
