Consumer confidence further improves in June

Ljubljana – Consumer confidence in Slovenia further improved in June, as the relevant indicator was up by one percentage point compared to May and 12 points higher than in June 2020. It is also nine percentage points higher compared to last year’s average, the Statistics Office said on Tuesday.

The most significant improvement in June compared to May was seen in the sub-indicator on expectations about the economic situation in the country, up by 3 percentage points.

The sub-indicator on the current financial situation in households was up by one percentage point, and the sub-indicator on expectations about households’ finances was also up by the same amount.

Meanwhile, consumers’ expectations related to major purchases have slightly decreased – by one percentage point.

Although consumer confidence has improved in recent months, Slovenian consumers seem to have noted and expect higher prices.

Both indicators of price movements increased at the monthly level: the indicator of price change for the last 12 months was up by 7 percentage points, and the indicator of price change over the next 12 months increased by 4 percentage points.

The first indicator is at its highest level since November 2012 and the second one is highest since July 2013.

Consumer confidence in June also improved year-on-year (+12 points) and compared to last year’s average (+9 points).

At the annual level, improvements were recorded in all four components of the consumer sentiment indicator: expectations about the country’s economy (+29), expectations about households’ finances (+11), expectations related to major purchases (+9), and current households’ finances (+2).
