Slovenia to donate 48,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Bosnia

Ljubljana – The government decided on Thursday to donate 48,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Bosnia-Herzegovina as a humanitarian aid during the Covid-19 epidemic. The epidemiological situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina is not favourable and only 7.7% of the population was vaccinated with at least one shot until 13 July, the government said.

The donation will be carried out after relevant contracts are signed between Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the company AstraZeneca.

The donated vaccine will be intended for the vaccination of the most vulnerable groups of population and members of critical infrastructure in the country.

The donation is part of Slovenia’s efforts to provide humanitarian aid during the Covid-19 pandemic, including to SE Europe.

The government said that according to experts, Bosnia-Herzegovina was faced with the third wave of the epidemic with a high mortality of those infected.

In Bosnia-Herzegovina, restrictive measures are not coordinated at the national level and due to a shortage of vaccines, mass vaccination has not started yet. So far, citizens have been vaccinated with the vaccines the country has received as donations, the government said.
