15th Mountain Film Festival kicks off

Domžale – The 15th Mountain Film Festival starts on Monday in Domžale near Ljubljana, featuring 33 films from 19 countries in four categories: mountaineering, climbing, mountain nature and culture, and sports and adventure. The festival, concluding on Sunday, will bring a plethora of productions on wild animals and epic stories from the Himalayas.

Film buffs will be able to enjoy great mountaineering and climbing adventures and participate in lectures by alpinists Korra Pesce (Italy), Boris Čujić (Croatia), and Marija and Andrej Štremfelj (Slovenia) and round-tables on writer, sculptor and alpinist Mauro Corona, the Triglav Trail runners and boundless nature, said the organisers.

The programme includes many foreign award-winning films along with a number of Slovenian productions.

Rok Lukšič and Martin Smerdel’s 360 Ascent follows world-renowned climbers Janja Garnbret and Domen Škofic as they climb Europe’s tallest chimney in Trbovlje, which is also the world’s longest artificial multi-pitch route.

Also featured are Miha Čelar’s Sinovi Burje (The Sons of Bora), Rožle Bregar’s Narava Brez Meja (Nature Without Borders), a short documentary by the Triglav National Park, Jure Sodja and Tine Lagler’s Mi Nismo Izgubljena Generacija (We are Not the Lost Generation) about a one-of-a-kind snowboard maker. Concluding the Slovenian portion of the festival is Peter Vrčkovnik’s Kje So Meje Mogočega – 20 Let Tekov Na Grintovec (Finding Limits of Possible – 20 Years of the Grintovec Mountain Race).

An international judging panel will confer accolades for best films in each category.

Due to the pandemic, all screenings will be held at three sites in Domžale: the Tomec Hall of the Franc Bernik Culture Centre, the Pr’ Berniku courtyard and the tent in front of Vencelj Perko Primary School.
