INS: 52.2 pct increase in number of construction authorizations for residential buildings, in May

The number of construction authorizations issued for residential buildings increased by 52.2 pct in May, compared to the same month of 2020, but decreased by 0.4 pct over the previous month, shows the data published on Wednesday by the National Institute for Statistics (INS). Thus, in May 2021 an increase may be observed in the number of construction authorizations issued for residential buildings (+52.2 pct) as well as of the total usable surface (+40.6 pct), compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. In territorial profile, this increase (+1,598 authorizations) of the number of construction authorizations issued for residential buildings is reflected in all development regions: South-Muntenia (+402 authorizations), Bucharest-Ilfov (+276), Northeast (+267), Northwest (+221), Southeast (+158), Southwest Oltenia (+150), West (+68) and Center (+56). Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, in May 2021 an increase of the number of construction authorizations issued for non-residential buildings was recorded (+40.3 pct) and a drop of the total usable surface (-39.6 pct). In territorial profile, this decrease (-136,408 sq m) of the useful surface in the construction authorizations issued for non-residential buildings is reflected in the following development regions: South-Muntenia (-70,000 sq m), Northwest (-67,506 sq m), West (-43,943), Southeast (-6,244), Southwest Oltenia (-903). Increases were recorded in the following development regions: Center (+22,226 sq m), Northeast (+18,221) and Bucharest-Ilfov (+11,741). Compared to the previous month, in May 2021 there were 4,660 construction authorizations for residential buildings issued (-0.4 pct), with a total usable surface of 97,8671 (-2.4). Of the total construction authorizations for residential buildings, 69.6 pct are for the rural area. In May 2021 a drop of the usable surface in construction authorizations issued for non-residential buildings is noted (-19.9 pct). In May 2021 a decrease may be observed in the number of construction authorizations issued for residential buildings (-21 authorizations) compared to the previous month. In territorial profile, this decrease is reflected in the following development regions: West (-126 authorizations), Center (-81), Northwest (-16) and Northeast (-5). Increases were recorded in the following development regions: South Muntenia (+113 authorizations), Bucharest-Ilfov (+45), Southeast (+41), Southwest Oltenia (+8). Furthermore, in May 2021 there were 693 construction authorizations for non-residential buildings issued (+5.6 pct), with a total usable surface of 208,033 sq m (-19.9 pct). Compared to the previous month, in May 2021 a decrease was noted (-51.666 sq m) of the total usable surface of construction authorizations issued for non-residential buildings. In territorial profile, this decrease is reflected by the following development regions: Bucharest-Ilfov (-39,506 sq m), Southwest Oltenia (-13,611 sq m), West (-6,970), Northeast (-5,936), South Muntenia (-4,592) and Southeast (-2,199). Increases were recorded in the development regions Center (+19,271 sq m) and Northwest (+1,877). In the first five months of this year 19,550 construction authorizations for residential buildings were issued, an increase of 39.7 pct over the January 1 - May 31, 2020 period. Increases were recorded in all development regions: South Muntenia (+1198 authorizations), Bucharest-Ilfov (+857), Northeast (+797), Northwest (+687), West (+643), Southeast (+547), Center (+418) and Southwest Oltenia (+406).
