Nine new coronavirus cases confirmed as downward trend persists

Ljubljana – Nine new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Slovenia on Sunday, the fifth day in a row that cases dropped on a week-on-week basis. All the main indicators remained broadly unchanged, show the latest data by the National Institute of Public Health.

The positive cases came from 590 tests, for a positivity rate of 1.5%. An additional 7,000 rapid antigen tests were performed.

The 14-day incidence per 100,000 population currently stands at 36, down marginally from the day before, and the number of active cases is estimated at 760.

The situation in hospitals changed little. There were 30 coronavirus patients in hospital this morning, one more than yesterday, while the number of ICU cases remained the same at ten.

Since the start of July only a handful of patients have been admitted and the total number of hospitalised patients has fallen by half.

Vaccination has been sluggish in recent weeks, but as of today more than 50% of all adults have received the first shot of a vaccine and 44% are fully vaccinated.

The figures for the population over 50, which is at highest risk of complications from the virus, the figures are 63% and 58%, respectively.
