Pogačar skips Vuelta, Roglič to defend title

Ljubljana – Slovenian cycling superstar Tadej Pogačar seems to be skipping the 2021 Vuelta a Espana as he is scheduled to attend a reception at his native town of Komenda on 13 August, one day ahead of the start of the race around Spain. Primož Roglič is meanwhile to take part in the race to defend his 2020 title.

The double Tour de France winner Pogačar has crowned his season so far by recently taking the bronze medal in the road race at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The 22-year-old is thus scheduled to attend a grand welcome party in Komenda, some 15 km north of Ljubljana, on 13 August, to which all his fans and other sport enthusiasts are invited to celebrate the latest successes with the cycling prodigy.

Meanwhile, his compatriot Primož Roglič, who won the time trial at the Tokyo Olympics, will be at the start of the Vuelta, which will take place from 14 August to 5 September.

The 31-year-old, who is the reigning double winner of the race around Spain, will be joined in the race around France by Slovenians Jan Tratnik and Jan Polanc.
