Janja Garnbret to carry Slovenian flag at Olympics closure

Tokyo – Olympic medallist Janja Garnbret, who won gold in the women’s combined sport climbing on Friday, will carry the Slovenian flag at the closing event of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games on Sunday, the Slovenian Olympic Committee has announced.

Slovenia has won a record three gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, a record Olympic gold medal tally for the country, which also secured one silver and one bronze medal.

54 Slovenian athletes have taken part, with Slovenia’s basketball team, having qualified for the Games for the first time, to play for bronze against Australia today.

A decision for Garnbret, 22, to carry the flag has been expected, as she is currently the only Slovenian Olympic medallist still in Tokyo.
