Nearly 200 coronavirus infections confirmed on Thursday

Ljubljana – A total of 199 coronavirus infections were confirmed in Slovenia on Thursday in 1,841 PCR tests for a positivity rate of 10.8%. The cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents continued to steadily increase, standing at 92, up by four on the day before, show fresh data by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).

The 7-day average of new cases rose by eight to 161.

Almost 23,100 rapid antigen tests were also performed yesterday.

The NIJZ estimates there are currently 1,983 active cases in the country, up by 83 on the day before.

A total of 950,331 or 45% of the population has received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 845,534 or 40% has been fully immunised.

In the 12-18 age group, the vaccination rate is the lowest as almost 14% has been single-jabbed and some 8.5% has been fully inoculated against Covid-19.

Ahead of the next school year, youths aged above 12 have been urged to get the Pfizer jab in a number of towns across Slovenia, including Ljubljana, Kranj, Koper and Slovenj Gradec, to improve vaccine uptake in this group.

Following the European Medicines Agency’s approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for children aged 12 or more in late May, the national advisory group for Covid-19 vaccination recommended vaccinating children, especially those suffering from chronic diseases.
