Logar in Denmark to discuss cooperation, Afghanistan situation

Copenhagen – Foreign Minister Anže Logar paid a visit to Denmark on Thursday to meet his counterpart Jeppe Kofod. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, reviewing the implementation of the priorities of the Slovenian EU presidency, and on topical international issues, including Afghanistan.

Logar and Kofod paid particular attention to the situation in Afghanistan, especially evacuations and the consequences of the political changes in the country, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

They called for intensive coordination of further activities and strategies within NATO and the EU, noting that the informal meeting of the EU foreign ministers at the beginning of September in Slovenia would be an opportunity for strategic debate on the issue.

The ministers also discussed other topical international issues, including measures to stem the spread and mitigate the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, trans-Atlantic relations, the Western Balkans and migration.

As one of the main priorities of the presidency is to be more effective in tackling various crisis situations, Logar said that the “efforts to establish an European health union are of special importance for improving readiness for pandemics and for strengthening the resilience of healthcare system.”

The ministry added in the press release that Slovenia and Denmark were connected by good and friendly relations and regular and constructive cooperation as part of the EU, NATO and regional and international forums.

Logar and Kofod called for further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, in particular in technology and economy. Denmark was Slovenia’s largest trade partner among all Nordic countries in 2020.

As part of the visit, the Slovenian foreign minister also met chair of the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee Martin Lidegaard, former Danish Prime Minister and NATO Secretary General Fogh Rasmussen and executives of logistics company of A.P. Moller-Maersk.

The meeting at the Copenhagen seat of the largest global logistics company and the main partner in container transport of Luka Koper, the operator of the sole Slovenian seaport, was also attended by Luka Koper CEO Dimitrij Zadel.
