Long delays at border crossings with Croatia and Austria

Ljubljana – During the last summer school break weekend this year, traffic has been dense so far at Slovenia’s border crossings with Croatia and Austria as well as on certain motorways and the Ljubljana ring road. A tailback as long as some 10 kilometres has formed on the Slovenian side of the Karawanks tunnel towards Austria.

A tailback has also formed on the Austrian side of the tunnel, so the tunnel has been temporarily closed, Slovenia’s traffic information centre said on Saturday.

Drivers headed towards mountain resort Kranjska Gora in the north-west are advised to leave the motorway at the Lesce exit.

The Ljubelj Pass tunnel with Austria is also being closed at intervals on the Slovenian side due to passenger controls and congestion.

Traffic on the Gorenjska motorway in the north-west is expected to remain heavy until Monday morning, the Kranj Police Department said.

Those entering Slovenia from Croatia at the Dragonja, Sečovlje and Gruškovje border crossings are waiting more than two hours and those entering Croatia up to one hour.

Tailbacks have also formed at the Jelšane, Obrežje and Vinica crossings where one waits one-two hours to enter Slovenia.
