Večer says anti-vaccine protesters a symptom of society

Maribor – The scenes of anti-vaccination protesters storming the headquarters of the public broadcaster paint an embarrassing, bitter and telling picture of how far we as the country and society have come. This is no longer a question of crossing the line of the acceptable, says Večer on Monday.

The attack on RTV Slovenija was not unexpected as the group had been protesting against Covid-19 containment measures and vaccination in front of the RTV Slovenija headquarters for months.

Ladislav Troha and his supporters are no longer an incident, an excess, a mistake in the system. What they did on Friday cannot even be the last warning because there had been many already and we are already experiencing the consequences of not dealing with processes that spell the death of democracy, the paper says.

Troha and his group are a scary symptom of the decay of civilizational gains, the dominance of anti-intellectualism, destruction of experts and science, and of social regression of all kind.

But on the other hand, they are being used as “useful idiots” in a dangerous game in which journalism has been demonised in Slovenia for years.

The only way to fight this planned attack on journalism is for society to reject this perverted policy. The Democrats (SDS) have been attacking journalists for the last ten years or more, and have been illegally destroying the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) for months.

That is why it is that much more perverse that the government now wants to penalise verbal attacks on politicians.

In this context, Troha is water to its mill, proof that the country needs stricter repressive laws when it comes to protesters.

“The government, slowly boiling us like frogs in its authoritative pot, is counting on our eyes to be wide shut by now,” Večer says under the headline Troha at Your Door.
