1,393 new coronavirus infections recorded on Monday

Ljubljana – The number of new coronavirus cases continues to rise in Slovenia, with 1,393 infections being detected on Monday, which is up 59% from a week ago and the highest daily figure since 7 April. There are now more than 10,640 active cases in the country, according to estimates by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). Three patients died.

According to government data, the number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals is up by 21 to 333 today and the number of patients in intensive care by three to 77.

The youngest patient hospitalised is 24 and the youngest patient in intensive care is 28, the government said on Twitter.

The 7-day average of new cases rose from 841 to 915 and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 from 462 to 502.

The test positivity rate rose to almost 25% yesterday.

“There are too many infections and hospitals are rapidly being filled with unvaccinated Covid patients. Only vaccination can protect us from a repeat of last year’s difficult autumn and winter,” Prime Minister Janez Janša tweeted today, urging people to get vaccinated.

So far, 49% of the population has received the first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine and 44% have been fully immunised.

Among those over 18 years old, 53% have been fully vaccinated, and 66% among those over 50, government data show.
