Police apprehend three people transporting illegal migrants

Maribor/Novo Mesto – Maribor police detained a Moldovan man on Monday who was illegally transporting ten Bangladeshi nationals in his vehicle, while his accomplice, believed to be an Afghan national, is still on the run. On the same day, the Novo Mesto police arrested a man and a woman from Georgia that were illegally transporting seven migrants.

On Monday morning, Maribor police officers stopped a vehicle with Hungarian registration plates in Meje, driven by a 29-year-old Moldovan national.

During the check, they found that the man was transporting ten Bangladeshi nationals. The driver and passenger both fled, with the latter still on the run.

All the Bangladeshi migrants applied for international protection in Slovenia and were taken to an asylum centre.

The police in the Dolenjska region also pulled over a car on the motorway on Monday, driven by a 33-year-old Georgian man with a 30-year-old woman passenger, who were illegally transporting seven foreign nationals.

The pair from Georgia was arrested and their car was seized. Proceedings against the illegal migrants are ongoing.

Six of the seven migrants were Pakistani nationals and one was an Afghan national, the Novo Mesto Police Department said.
