Mobile data usage and number of texts sent increase y/y

Ljubljana – Slovenian mobile network users sent almost 574 million SMS messages in the second quarter of 2021, an increase of 4% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, mobile broadband users downloaded more than 56 million gigabytes of data, which is 26% more than last year.

Private users sent 2% more messages, while business users sent 12% more. The number of MMS messages sent fell by 6% to just over 29 million.

There was over 1.4 million hours of outgoing voice traffic (national and international) from the Slovenian fixed network, 7% less than the 2nd quarter of last year, according to the Statistics Office.

Traffic from fixed to mobile networks increased by 9% in total, and by 14% for business users.

Statisticians recorded almost 23 million hours of total outgoing traffic from Slovenian mobile networks, which is 4% less than in the second quarter of 2020.

Meanwhile, Slovenian mobile networks recorded a total of almost 500 million outgoing calls, an increase of 7% compared to the second quarter of last year.

The number of outgoing calls from mobile to fixed networks was 17% higher.

Mobile broadband users downloaded more than 56 million gigabytes of data, 26% more than in the second quarter of last year.

The Statistics Office notes that data transmission via Wi-Fi is not included.

At the end of the second quarter, there were almost 662,000 broadband internet connections in Slovenia, an increase of 4% compared to last year.

The number of fibre-optic connections – which account for 46% of all broadband connections – increased by 15%.
