Consumer confidence remains down in October

Ljubljana – Consumer confidence deteriorated for the fourth month in a row in October. The figure was down by four percentage points both on September and the long-term average, the Statistics Office said on Thursday.

Month-on-month, all relevant sub-indicators decreased – expectations regarding the financial situation in households were down by five points and expectations about the economic situation in the country dropped by three points.

Consumers’ opinion about the current financial situation in households was down by three points and expectations regarding major purchases by two.

The indicator on price trends over the next twelve months also deteriorated significantly, by seven points. This means that more and more Slovenian consumers are expecting price rises, the statisticians said. The indicator has reached its highest level since September 2012.

When it comes to the annual level, consumer confidence was more upbeat in October. Year-on-year, the relevant index improved by four points, mainly due to higher expectations about the economic situation in the country (up by 14 points).
