Lapornik takes over as deputy to anti-graft boss

Ljubljana – David Lapornik has assumed his five-year term as one of the two deputy presidents of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (KPK). He replaces Uroš Novak, who stepped down in July.

Lapornik, who has been employed with the KPK since 2018, was appointed by President Borut Pahor by order that was published in the Official Gazette on Monday, the KPK said.

In a public presentation organised by the president’s office, Lapornik set out as his priorities upgrading the preventive role of the anti-graft body, enhancing cooperation with other similar bodies, putting forward proposals to improve the legislative framework, staff training and forming clear frameworks with respect to integrity violations.

The previous deputy, Uroš Novak tendered his resignation to Pahor in July, citing new professional challenges as the reason for the move.

The KPK is headed by Robert Šumi as president with Lapornik and Simon Savski serving as deputies.
