Positivity rate almost 34% on Sunday as Covid spike persists

Ljubljana – A total of 707 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Slovenia on Sunday, almost double of the figure from a week ago, while the positivity rate also increased on a daily basis, rising from 33.5% to almost 34%, reported the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).

The seven-day average of new cases has increased by 49 to 1,722 and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents has climbed to 898, up by 25 compared to the day before, NIJZ data show.

The NIJZ estimates that there are now 18,447 active cases in Slovenia, up 517 on the day before, and up from 12,401 a week ago.

The government reported that 493 people with Covid-19 were in hospital on Sunday, 18 more than on Saturday. The number of patients who require intensive care was up by one to 127.

Eleven Covid-19 patients died yesterday, six more than the day before and the highest daily number since the end of April.
