PM Janša in Glasgow for world leaders summit

Glasgow – PM Janez Janša will attend the World Leaders Summit, a high-level political event held in Glasgow, UK, on Monday and Tuesday as part of the ongoing COP26 climate conference.

The summit, hosted by UK PM Boris Johnson, will be an opportunity to discuss ways of mitigating climate change and providing climate aid to the most vulnerable countries.

In his address, Janša will announce Slovenia’s joining a statement on forests which aims at preserving forests at the global level, his office said.

He will also hold several bilateral meetings, including with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

Janša will lead a Slovenian delegation of around 50 members, including Environment Minister Andrej Vizjak, who will take over from him for the second part of the UN conference.

The conference aims to finalise the rules needed to implement the 2015 Paris Agreement and to raise the general ambition to reduce CO2 emissions to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. It will also address measures to adapt to the consequences of climate change and commitments to raise climate funding.
