Dr Kon strikes back: They reacted immediately, rightly so

The reaction, at least those from the educational community, was mostly caused by the attitude of epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Staff Dr Predrag Kon, who warned that the winter break should begin before St. Nicholas, which is celebrated on December 19, because that is the period when gastarbeiters enter our country, as they come from European countries where the delta strain reigns.
Dr Kon explained in the morning, being hosted on RTS, that we are entering a period of unfavorable epidemic events: winter, celebrations, Catholic, and then Orthodox Christmas. He also stated two main reasons for the holiday to start on December 20, and not on December 31.
"Around the time of Catholic Christmas, our people who work in the west come to our country, there is an explosion of delta plus strain of coronavirus, which we have not yet determined to circulate here," adds Kon.
Also, he states, in the second half of December, we expect the arrival of the flu virus, which is already present and proven in the region. "It is probable that it is already with us, but hasn't reached its potential yet. This is important because schools represent close to a million people who are indoors, if you add parents and grandparents, half of Serbia is in some way related to schools, whether they work or not. That is the reason, no date is given, it must be fully agreed with the educational sector. We had consultations with the Prime Minister and we clearly said that it would be desirable to be December 20, it is also connected with the holiday. St. Nicholas is on Sunday, before that the holiday would start, as far as I know, the 31st is planned, so it is about ten days earlier", said Kon.
