Over 60% oppose government in POP TV poll

Ljubljana – The voter approval rating for the government has fallen further in the latest poll commissioned by the commercial broadcaster POP TV. The ruling Democrats (SDS) remain in the lead but have lost some ground.

The proportion of those who approve of the government’s job fell by 1.1 of a percentage point from the month before to 28.3% as the percentage of those who disapprove rose by 0.2 points to 62.2%.

The SDS polled at 16.1%, down 2.5 percentage points after it had gained 3.6 points the month before.

The opposition Social Democrats (SD) continue in second at 11%, down half a point, ahead of the Left, which lost 1.5 point to 7.5%. Both those parties had made gains in the month before.

The LMŠ party of the previous PM Marjan Šarec trails at 5.3% and the junior coalition New Slovenia (NSi) at 4.8%, having slipped back 0.3 and 0.2 points, respectively.

The opposition Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB) gained 0.4 points to 4.4% in sixth, followed by the non-parliamentary Pirates (2.8%), Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS, 2%) and the non-parliamentary Greens (1.8%).

The proportion of the undecided rose by 1.6 point to 22.5%. A further 11.3% would not vote any of the existing parties and 3.7% would not answer the question.

NSi MEP Ljudmila Novak remains the most popular politician ahead of Health Minister Janez Poklukar, who pushed Speaker Igor Zorčič to third.

President Borut Pahor and Foreign Minister Anže Logar changed places so that Pahor is now in fourth and Logar in fifth. PM Janez Janša is in 15th.

The poll was conducted by Mediana among 710 respondents.
